Dr. Chappa, Your At Home Vet

Veterinary care for your pet in the comfort of their own home.
Dr. Cheryl Chappa
I grew up in Fairfield County and was the oldest of five children. I always knew that I was going to be a vet and my family was very supportive. I always brought home stray and injured
creatures to nurse back to health. I went to college in Vermont and enjoyed the mountains while I studied hard. My dream came true when I was accepted to Tufts University School of
Veterinary Medicine. I loved every day of vet school and looked forward to finally becoming a doctor. I started my vet career in a mixed animal practice in upstate New York (horses, sheep,
goats, llamas, dogs, cats). That job was thrilling, challenging, rewarding and exhausting all at the same time. After 3 years I decided that it was time to be closer to my family so I returned to Fairfield County and took a job with my mentor in a small animal practice. This is where I began to fine tune my skills to provide my clients and patients with excellent medical care. I really enjoyed this practice but I needed to find an area to settle down that was a bit more affordable so I headed to northern Fairfield County.

I have been in the New Fairfield area for over 20 years. During that time I met my husband, bought a house, had a son and accumulated a menagerie of animals. I spent 13 of those years at a very busy small animal practice. While working at this practice my life was always very hectic and my family life was always being rushed or neglected. I also wanted to spend more quality time with my patients. Late in 2010 I
made the decision to give up the hectic life and now I spend more time enjoying family and my calling. I believe that a veterinarian is truly the other family doctor. The relationships I build with my clients are built on trust, understanding and communication. I am there to advise, provide options and listen to my clients and I do my best to assist them in making difficult decisions about what is best for them and their pet. I opened my house call practice, Your At Home Vet, in the Spring of 2012. I did this so that I could do my part to honor the bond between humans and their pets. I really enjoy making house calls because I can spend more time with pets and their owners in their own environment.  I also enjoy shelter work and spent 7 years caring for the rescue animals at ROAR in Ridgefield.

I have a close relationship with the New Fairfield Animal Hospital so that my patients have access to an excellent full service hospital when the need arises.
